GCSE, AS and A-Level Exam Results 2015
Vyners School is delighted to report record-breaking results for its students in the 2015 results.
At GCSE the school has achieved its best results in the school’s history. An incredible 82% of students achieved the national benchmark of 5 A*-C grades including English and Maths. Since 2011 GCSE performance has risen every year from 64% 5A*-C with English and Maths to 82% in this year’s results.
91% of students gained an A*-C in Mathematics and 87% in English with almost all departments securing 80%+ A*-C. Results at the highest grades have increased again with a third of all grades achieved at A*-A. Thirty-six students (20% of the cohort) achieved eight or more A*-A grades.
We are delighted that there were successes at every level with students making fantastic progress across the full range of GCSE and vocational subjects. We are proud of each and every student and their individual successes.
The vast majority of Year 11 students are continuing their education at Vyners in September where they will be joined by a large number of external candidates, from other schools. The rest of them have secured places at other sixth forms and colleges where we wish them every success.
At A-Level the overall pass rate was 99% with 79% A*-C grades. We have had particular success this year with the number of students achieving the very highest grades. 31% of results at Vyners were A*-A grades, in contrast to the national picture where the proportion of students gaining A*-A grades fell.
11% of the cohort achieved all A*-A grades with two achieving 4 A* grades: Head Boy, Ed Hockin (Economics, Geography, Maths and Further Maths) who is off to read Economics at the London School of Economics and Matthew Dent (Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics) who is off to Warwick University to read Mathematics. Matthew scored an incredible 600 out of a possible 600 marks in his Maths papers.
Many students have been accepted into their first place university choices and others have secured places at competitive apprenticeships, including Google.
Joe Harker (Cardiff University) and Alex Howard (Southampton University) have both secured places to read Medicine which is one of the most competitive university courses in the country, notoriously hard to get in to.
The AS results were the school's best results in recent years which gives our Year 12 students an excellent foundation for next year.
This success is testament to all the professional and dedicated staff who work at Vyners and the hard work of students, supported by their parents. We wish the students every success in their future!
